Accreditation

2008 APR logoThe purpose of the CPRS accreditation process it to assess a member's experience and competence in the professional practice of public relations and to recognize this achievement through the designation of accreditation. As a candidate for accreditation, you must satisfactorily complete the three-part accreditation process and subscribe to the CPRS Code of Professional Standards. Upon successful completion, you will be recognized as an Accredited Public Relations practitioner and authorized to use the "APR" designation.

Please note that this year we are offering a new Work Sample Overview Template to help candidates prepare their work sample overview. It is optional, but we recommend that everyone use it as it will help ensure they include all the required information with their application. It is available on the CPRS National website as "Work Sample Overview Template" and is also attached to the application form available online.

If you have any questions about the Accreditation process please send a note to Del Simon, APR at accreditation@cprscalgary.com.

2008 Written and Oral Exams

The 2008 written and oral exams took place in October in nine cities across Canada. It takes a lot of volunteers and hard work to make these exams happen including Regional Examiners, Accreditation Chairs, invigilators, graders and contacts at local Colleges and Universities. I would like to thank everyone who helped out with the exam arrangements and administration in Calgary, especially the staff of the Communications Department at Mount Royal College who not only provided us with a boardroom but also supplied lunch for the examiners.

28 candidates completed the exam process. Four of them from Calgary. Their exams were marked during the month of November and they received their final marks in mid December.

"Getting my APR after about 10 years of 'doing' PR helped me believe in myself. The accreditation process made me appreciate the knowledge and experience I had already gained and commit to PR as a profession, not just a job." Judi Gunter, APR
