Southern Alberta Institute of Technology
Journalism Program
The Journalism program involves writing, taking, selecting and editing of photos. They also learn to design newspaper and magazine pages and promotion materials.
While writing is the core subject, students also learn digital photography, advertising, public relations, publication design, printing and publishing techniques and on-line delivery.
Students study professional techniques of writing, editing, designing and laying out newspapers and magazines using desktop publishing techniques. They also practice special photo techniques. During the last two semesters, students complete practicums, usually at newspapers and magazines or in corporate communications/public relations.
The SAIT Journalism program is terrific for those who have a zest for writing but don't know where their interest lies yet. It's a great introduction to the public relations field and qualifies as a transfer to various communication degree programs across Canada.
